Legislative Update: What Artificial Intelligence Means for Georgia

One of the most valuable experiences I had recently was attending a national conference focused on the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its impact on our economy, workforce, and communities. The discussions reinforced that AI is no longer a technology of the future—it is already changing the way we live, work, learn, and do business.

As legislators, our responsibility is not simply to react to these changes, but to help shape policies that encourage innovation while protecting Georgia families, workers, and businesses.

Preparing Georgia's Workforce

One of the conference's most important messages was that AI is expected to transform far more jobs than it replaces. As technology changes the workplace, employers will increasingly seek workers with AI, digital, and analytical skills.

That means Georgia must continue investing in workforce development, technical education, apprenticeships, and lifelong learning opportunities so workers of every age can compete in tomorrow's economy. Helping people adapt to changing technology is just as important as attracting new industries to our state.

Supporting Georgia Businesses

Artificial intelligence is becoming an important tool for businesses of every size. Small businesses can use AI to improve customer service, automate routine tasks, strengthen marketing efforts, and increase productivity.

At the same time, business owners need practical guidance on using AI responsibly while protecting customer information and maintaining trust.

Protecting Consumers

As AI becomes more common, policymakers must also address important questions surrounding privacy, cybersecurity, consumer protection, and transparency.

Conference experts emphasized that AI should never replace human judgment in critical decisions involving employment, healthcare, insurance, financial services, or public safety. Responsible safeguards will help ensure technology serves people fairly and ethically.

Education and Opportunity

Our students will graduate into a workforce where AI skills are increasingly expected. Schools, colleges, and technical institutions must prepare students to understand how these tools work while continuing to develop the communication, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills that technology cannot replace.

Preparing the next generation means teaching students how to use AI responsibly—not simply how to use it.

Looking Ahead

Artificial intelligence presents enormous opportunities for Georgia. It can improve healthcare, strengthen emergency response, support agriculture, assist small businesses, and help government deliver services more efficiently.

However, innovation must be accompanied by thoughtful public policy. As your State Representative, I will continue supporting policies that encourage economic growth while protecting workers, consumers, and our communities.
